Quatrane's Debut

Last night was the debut performance of Quatrane, a band comprised of Vince Tampio (trumpet), Catfish Brown (guitar), Michael Kadnar (drums), and Ben Basile (bass). Over a hundred people made it out to Oasis for a celebratory Tuesday night. Beer was flowing. Jazz was emanating through a crowd of dancing bodies. The music was upbeat and groove worthy. I was initially under the impression that the band would specialize in straight jazz, but they played songs with heavy Latin, bebop, blues, and funk influence. Then VT plugged his trumpet's mute into an amp, creating a jazz-rock fusion sound. It was a surprising change of pace from some of the previous jazz nights at Oasis, which tend to attract an audience of alcoholic 50-year-olds as well as a few token jazz majors. Quatrane will surely develop a following. Their first gig was a definite hit.
